With her latest single “Best Days”, an interpretation of the classic “Tage wie diese” by Die Toten Hosen, she ushers in a new era in her career.
This song is not only a single, but the prelude to her brand new album “Our Songs”. Anastacia turns “Tage wie diese” into “Best Days”
On Friday, April 28, 2023, the music world was surprised with the release of Anastacia “Best Days”. This track is the first single from her highly anticipated eighth studio album, the first in nearly six years.
“Best Days” is a creative and freely translated interpretation of the hit “Tage wie diese“ by German punk rock band Die Toten Hosen. The lyrics of “Best Days” describe the feeling of always having hope inside of you and to stay strong even in difficult times.
But why did Anastacia choose this particular song by Die Toten Hosen? In an interview, she explained that she and her producer were looking for songs to cover. In this process, the lead singer of Die Toten Hosen Campino was asked if he would be interested in translating “Tage wie diese” for Anastacia. He agreed, translated the song and even sang the demo version for them.
The decision to cover “Tage wie diese” and make it “Anastacia Best Days” was certainly a surprise to many. But this unexpected combination turned out to be ingenious. With the translation of Campino, who has had dual citizenship since 2019 and whose mother was from England, “An Tagen wie diesen wünscht man sich Unendlichkeit“ turned into the inspiring refrain “These are the best days, the best days of our lives.“
“An Tagen wie diesen” by German punk rock band Die Toten Hosen was originally released in March 2012 and was the first single from their album “Ballast der Republik”. After its release, the single reached number one in the German charts. In addition, the song was in the charts of three countries and remained there for a total of 208 weeks.
Anastacia’s new album 2023: “Our Songs”
“Tage wie diese” will not remain the only cover of a German hit by Anastacia. On her new album, she will sing exclusively German songs and songs by German bands – to underscore her ties to Germany, according to an announcement.
“Through this project, I discovered a love for German music that I didn’t know about before. It brought me closer to the German culture and language”., Anastacia said.
It is scheduled for release on September 22, 2023.

Choosing the songs for “Our Songs” was a careful and thoughtful process. Anastacia says in an interview of the ZDF-Morgenmagazin that she listened to the German songs and paid special attention to the melody. She asked herself: Can she feel her own voice in this melody? The music was the first step, followed by the meaning of the lyrics. Does the song fit her, her story and her personality?
After deciding on a song, permission had to be obtained to use it. With the approval, she set to work on the translation. Anastacia tried to stay as close as possible to the original text. Every song tells a story, and that story is important and should be preserved. “It’s a really complicated process,” she adds with a twinkle in her eye, “I’ll never do that again.”
The highlights of the album “Our Songs” include a number of German hits from the last 40 years. Among them are “Born To Live Forever” (a 2010 rendition of Unheilig’s “Geboren, um zu leben”), “Forever Young” (originally by Alphaville from 1984) and “Still Loving You” (a 1984 hit by the Scorpions).
From pop to stadium-sized rock radio anthems, Anastacia brings together classics from a variety of genres and decades.
